O mother carry me home
O mother wrap me in lilies and carry me home
O mother I have come
to wonder where I'm from, where I'm fromsee me kneeling in the pines
see me weaving blackberry vines, blackberry vines
into giant raven wings
I will fly and know these things, I'll know these thingsI need to love someone
I need to shine like the sun, shine like the sun
O mother I have come
to wonder where I'm from, where am I fromCredits:

give me your secrets
give me your chains
give me your hurts and your burdens
give me your stains
give me your emptiness
with a slice of lime
and I'll deliver for you baby
one drink at a timeha ha...
but I'll take your lover
I'll take your light
I'll take your truth and your money
I'll take your fight
I'll take you anywhere
you don't want to go
and you'll deliver for me baby
you won't say noha ha...
you're mine, taste my fire
and your walls come tumbling down
you're fine, I like you better
when you're crawling on the ground
you're mine, taste my fire
and your walls come tumbling down
you're fine, I like you better
when you're crawling on the groundCredits:

I will not be around for you to bring me down
I will not be around for you to bring me down
I'll be gone like the rain in a killing droughtyou will notice I am gone when you have no one to blame
you will notice I am gone when you have no one to blame
you'll look in the mirror and call my nameI'm a raging flood babe and you're the dam
I'm a raging flood babe and you're the dam
you want to hold me like the lion holds the lambnothing left to say
let's call it a dayArmstrong walked up on the moon
Maathai planted a tree and millions grew
and me, I'm leaving younothing left to say
let's call it a dayCredits:

(inspired by the amazing women of Prajwala)
a long time ago before the rains began
my mother so wanted to give me the chances she never had
sent me from home to work in the children's ward
she didn't know it wasn't the children they wanted my service forthere's a world beyond this leveling field I'm on
and the wonder will come but for now my song is sung
undergroundthey come for the love, they come with compliments
they come with a hunger satisfied only with handfuls of innocence
sometimes I run, sometimes I gratify
sometimes I hum the golden refrain of my grandmother's lullabythere's a world beyond this leveling field I'm on
and the wonder will come but for now my song is sungthe lost will be found
the handmaiden crowned
the tender vine without a stake to curl around
is still growing, still growing
undergrounda long time ago before the rains began
I left my home and everything I could understandthere's a world beyond this leveling field I'm on
and the wonder will come but for now my song is sung
undergroundCredits:

(lullaby for Chris Whitley)
lay down your guitar
leave the rhyme
your angel's in your arms
and it's easy timethe mist is now your blanket
your bed divine
your life constellated
now it's easy timeall is said and done
lay down your guitar
hear your song
and finally return
to the wild where you belongeasy time
easy time
easy timeCredits:

to the left or the right take a step no apology
watch the alchemy
in your eyes as you recognize the cold knife of a slighting look
the familiar cut you know it will not bleedyou go it alone but you like it
a face without a name the slate is clean
a kiss or a fist is what you might get
anything but in betweenthe city is a cloak you wear like smoke you disappear
and nobody cares and you go so what
you're doing all right, you're making it just fine thank you
play the music and you're dancing all nightyou go it alone but you like it
a face without a name the slate is clean
a kiss or a fist is what you might get
anything but in betweendim the light
pull the curtain
climb on that train and rideyou go it alone but you like it
a face without a name the slate is clean
a kiss or a fist is what you might get
anything but in betweento the left or the right take a step no apology

I came of age in 2017
my baby forced to bear
I've heard the stories of a time when we could choose
we didn't realize how much we had to lose

waiting on the corner for the M11
I'm going down to see my baby for a slice of heaven
I'm wet, it's cold and I gotta be there by seven
I want my bushey look it's coming now I think I'm gonna make it
no it's the M16 and I don't want to take it
it don't go down to where my baby may be waiting for me naked
I want my buswell I could run to Times Square and risk the underground there
or I could grab me a taxi if I only had the fare
it seems every time I try to meet my baby somewhere
something delays me makes me crazy oh you know it ain't fairwell you know my baby said he'd give me one more try
and if I was late again it would mean goodbye
and now the New York City Transit Authority has left me high and dry
I want my busonly one minute more and I won't get there before
my baby says it's over and forever slams the door
I have no more excuses I'm just lazy and it's useless
to explain why I remain such a pain to the one I adoreah, c'est la vie
hasta la vista baby, it was nice while it lasted
wait, what's that coming down the street
looks to me like the M11 and it's coming fast
it's coming really fast
I think it's moving past where it should stop
unless oh my god this is not a bus stop
it's down a few blocks
hey busdriver wait I got a date
and he's gonna hate me if I'm lateI can't believe I just missed my bus
I missed my goddamn bus
and now another good thing going bites the dust
and I'm stuck on 41st street, filled with disgust
I want my busCredits:

he's a naked adventurer
he lives to explore
he shakes with excitement
when I lay on the floor
when I touch him
he always wants more
I give him moreit's the way that he licks me
the way that he walks
it's the way that he comes
running when I call
I'll never leave him
he's got it all
he's my dogCredits:
